Have you noticed the cute bunny labels on some products and wondered what does cruelty free mean?

Wikipedia explains cruelty free as: 'a label for products or activities that do not harm or kill animals anywhere in the world. Products tested on animals are not considered cruelty-free, since these tests are often painful and cause the suffering and death of millions of animals every year.'

When you buy your favorite lipstick or shampoo or moisturizer do you ever wonder about how the company made those products? What processes they use and if any animals were harmed in the making and testing of those products. If you don’t, then now is the time to stop and ask some important questions. Would you use a product that caused your favorite pet, your furry friend, to suffer and be harmed? No, You wouldn’t. And if you are so protective over your pet then why would you allow other animals to suffer. Yet there are so many companies worldwide that still test their products on innocent animals. The companies argue that they need to test their products on animals to prevent humans from being injured or harmed. However animals don't always react the same as humans, and there is research to suggest that products tested on animals does not always prevent harm to humans. The bottom line is there are so many animals suffering worldwide for a product that you could probably do without.

There is hope. There are many organizations like Cruelty Free International and PETA as well as many humans that are fighting to stop animal testing. There are also companies that are providing the same products that you need without testing on animals. The onus is on every one of us to be aware of what we are buying and support those companies that are cruelty free. Next time you are out shopping, look for the ‘cruelty free’ logos of the products you are buying, and don’t buy anything that you are unsure of. You might find that the products are better for you and you will probably find a few new favorites. The following websites provide lists of companies that are cruelty free:

Be a better human, if we all stopped using products that are harmful to animals, we could save some lives and a lot of suffering. This planet belongs to animals just as much as it belongs to us and we have to protect them.

Let the little changes you make today become a big impact tomorrow.
